We Welcome All Dental Insurance

Dental insurance offers a relatively simple way to help you save hundreds every time you or your family visit the dentist, but are you making the most of your plan? At Highland Smiles Dental, we’re happy to accept and maximize our patients’ insurance benefits so they never have to worry about finances when they come to see us. To learn more about the basics of dental insurance and how to save as much as possible with it, you can read our handy guide below.

Understanding How Dental Insurance Works

Medical insurance and dental insurance are very similar in some ways, in that in exchange for a monthly premium, you gain access to discounts on various healthcare services. However, the key difference is that medical insurance is primarily designed to help people afford care for sudden serious problems, such as a heart attack or traumatic accident. With dental insurance, however, most plans are focused on making preventive care more affordable so that big problems don’t pop up in the first place.

What Your Dental Insurance Plan Covers

Every plan is slightly different from policy to policy, but in most cases, dental insurance benefits break down like this:

  • Preventive care like checkups, cleanings, X-rays, and dental sealants are covered 80-100%.
  • Basic restorative care such as fillings and crowns are covered 50-75%.
  • Advanced restorative care like dentures and root canal therapy are covered 30-50%.
  • Cosmetic services are typically NOT covered because they are deemed medically unnecessary.

From this, you can see that the best way to use your plan is to simply attend your two preventive checkups and cleanings every year. They’ll likely be mostly or completely covered by your insurance, and they’ll go a long way in helping you avoid the need for more expensive procedures over time.

Our In-Network Dental Insurance Providers

When we say that we’re “in-network” with an insurance provider, that simply means we have a contract with them. We’ve agreed to charge a certain (reduced) amount for our services to everyone covered by them, which the provider will then partially pay for. That means, when you visit a dental office like ours that is in-network with your plan, you actually save money two different ways! This can easily add up to hundreds at every visit.

And, fortunately for the people of Dallas, we are in-network with pretty much every dental insurance provider you can imagine:

  • Aetna
  • Ameritas
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield
  • Cigna
  • Connection Dental
  • Delta Dental
  • Dental Select

  • Guardian
  • Humana
  • MetLife
  • Principle
  • United Concordia
  • United Health Care
